Error Code F DEF ERROR
Freezer is not defrosting automatically and ice may build up
Critical
Stop using immediately - risk of damage or safety issue
Also displayed as: F DEF ERROR
What This Means
Heater resistance not within 63 ohm ±7% range; Defrost heater shorted (0 ohm reading); Defrost heater open circuit (infinite ohm); Bimetal or heater wire disconnection; Bad solder connection on heater terminals; Defrost sensor temperature above 53.6F (12C)
What actually causes this:
Defrost heater element burned out or safety bimetal stuck open
First Thing to Check
Turn on manual defrost and check if heating element gets warm
Parts Involved
How to Fix
- 1
1. Enter manual defrost mode (press Freezer+Control Lock for 8 seconds)
- 2
2. Measure resistance between CN31-3 and CN31-4 (should be 63 ohm ±7%)
- 3
3. Check defrost sensor temperature is below 53.6F (12C)
- 4
4. Verify heater resistance between CN70-5 and CN71-5 (63 ohm ±7%)
- 5
5. Measure power applied to defrost heater terminals
- 6
6. Verify system returns to cooling after defrost cycle completes
